Steven Thompson was surprised during live coverage of Rangers’ match against Ross County on Sunday when Celtic took the lead at Motherwell under a minute.
The two fierce Old Firm rivals were playing at the same time on Sunday afternoon (2 February), with Daizen Maeda putting Celtic ahead within seconds of kickoff at Fir Park.
Thompson was taken aback by the speed with which they scored, in response to Thomas Duncan revealing the goal while covering the Light Blues’ easy 4-0 victory at Ibrox.
“You are kidding, are they?!” Thompson said live on BBC Sportsound (2 February, 15:02).
Rangers seeking to take care of their own business
Rangers have had high points during the season, but they have battled to maintain a positive attitude.
An example occurred when the Gers began 2025 with a stunning Ibrox victory over their old rival (2 January), punishing Celtic’s first defeat of the Scottish Premiership season with gusto.
Unfortunately for Philippe Clement, the results before and after that day were suspect, and his job security was seriously questioned.
A month later, the Light Blues achieved an outstanding Europa League victory over Union Saint-Gilloise (30 January) at Ibrox, sealing a surprising berth in the top eight of the competition’s revised league phase and a place in the Round of 16.
Rangers must now retain some consistency and provide fans with enough to rejoice about this season, with the expectation that fans will enjoy performances once more.
