One player has confessed that he would prefer to leave Nottingham Forest permanently this summer.
A number of periphery players are slated to leave the City Ground soon, with the Telegraph reporting that Wayne Hennessey, Cheikhou Kouyate, Harry Arter, and Felipe are all leaving.
In addition to the previously stated quartet, another player appears to be leaving Nottingham Forest.
Orel Mangala wishes to leave Nottingham Forest.
Any Nottingham Forest fans hoping to see Orel Mangala return to the City Ground this summer should brace themselves for disappointment.
The Belgian international joined Lyon on loan in the January transfer window, and the French club also agreed a buy option with Nottingham Forest for up to £30 million.
Mangala has now revealed that he would like Lyon to exercise his option to buy.
According to Foot Mercato, the Belgian stated: “I feel well here, even though a few physical concerns prevented me from continuing. I am pleased with my season and the confidence that has been placed in me. What is the purchasing option? “I hope it is lifted (activated), yes.”
Mangala has made seven Ligue 1 appearances and scored two goals since joining Lyon, following 20 Premier League games in the first half of the 2023/24 season.
Would be fantastic news from a financial perspective.
While some may be disappointed by the announcement, it could have a good impact on the City Ground’s budget.
Mangala joined Nottingham Forest from VfB Stuttgart in July 2022 for £12.7 million.
As a result, if the Reds are able to get £30 million from Lyon for the 26-year-old’s contract this summer, they will make a tidy profit of £17.3 million.
After a difficult season on the financial front, which even saw Nottingham Forest have four points deducted, that profit could even help Nuno Espirito Santo bring a new face or two to the City Ground this summer.
