Nottingham Forest are increasing their efforts to add players before the transfer market ends, and a striker is high on the list.
Forest is interested in both Eddie Nketiah and Santiago Gimenez, and the club is currently making bids for both players.
However, Trentside will see some outgoings before the window closes in just over a week.
Joe Worrall is on the verge of joining Burnley, and Josh Bowler and Matt Turner are also expected to depart before the season ends.
However, there may be an unexpected exit, and supporters should steel themselves for a frenzied last week or so of the transfer market.
Journalists do not rule out Taiwo Awoniyi leaves Nottingham Forest.
Ahead of the market closing, we chatted with HITC Football’s transfer specialist, Graeme Bailey, who has some interesting news for us.
Our conversation shifted to the striker position and Awoniyi’s future at the club if Forest moves forward with a striker.
There appears to be a cheeky fan belief that Forest would add both strikers this summer while maybe letting Awoniyi leave.
Bailey does not totally discount the idea, as he predicts what will happen before the window closes.
He said exclusively to Nottingham Forest News: “I wouldn’t rule it out. Taiwo Awoniyi admitted last year that he isn’t completely settled. I refuse to rule anything out at the moment. I’m told about so many things that it’s impossible to turn down, but I don’t have the ability to do so right now.
“It’s possible, and if Forest lose him, will they need two strikers?” Quite probably, I believe you would need two if you lost Awoniyi, so never say never.”
Forest should probably keep Awoniyi.
Despite his injury issues, Awoniyi is a highly effective player on his day, and he has scored some vital goals for the team over the last two seasons.
However, if Forest are in the market for two strikers and can find a team willing to buy Awoniyi, the deal may be worthwhile.
Awoniyi started the 2023/24 season strong, but a groin ailment flared up twice during the season.
If the Nigerian is still not settled and a buyer can be found, it may be in everyone’s best interests to reach an agreement.
It would allow Forest to potentially sign two new forwards – assuming that is financially feasible – while also recouping some of the £17 million spent on the player.
Awoniyi is a popular player at the City Ground, so this clip comes as a surprise.
It will be interesting to watch what happens with Awoniyi’s future and whether there is any interest in his services.
