Daniel Farke spoke to the media ahead of Leeds United’s journey to Plymouth, where the two teams will meet off at midday on Saturday, and he confirmed that Sam Byram will not play.
Byram, 30, has been arguably the season’s biggest surprise. He initially joined on trial with the defender, who had been plagued by ailments in recent years, and later reconnected with Farke in Leeds United training.
Byram’s performances in training and pre-season against Monaco and Nottingham Forest earned him a fresh one-year contract from Leeds. He has played 28 games this season. However, there were also injuries.
Byram was absent from the squad’s trip to Swansea on Tuesday due to a hamstring injury. However, Farke has verified that the hamstring was not the source of his long-term difficulty.
Following a hectic schedule of games in recent weeks, there have been a few minor injuries. He is presently trying to recover, and Farke thinks he may miss the next two games, according to the club’s YouTube.
“He won’t be available, and he might not return for Leicester; it’s the same with Patrick. It would be a wonderful little surprise if feasible, but we will be without him for the next game, most likely against Leicester.”
Daniel Farke reveals that Sam Byram will miss the trip to Plymouth.
Indeed, Farke stated that Patrick Bamford, like Byram, is expected to miss tomorrow’s match and may be out for the Friday night clash against Leicester. Given his recent performance, the latter is a major setback.
Byram’s absence is also a setback. But Jamie Shackleton has returned following the birth of his kid, and Connor Roberts has signed, giving us full-back cover for Archie Gray and Junior Firpo.
So, losing Byram is hardly the end of the world, but for a player anxious to sign a new deal at Leeds, with his contract scheduled to expire in June, it casts uncertainty on his future.
