Wilfried Gnonto makes Leeds leave decision; loan-to-buy on cards – report

According to Inter Live, Wilfried Gnonto is pondering his future at Leeds United, with a move back to Italy on the cards.

According to the Italian newspaper (3 August), Parma, Venezia, and Genoa are all in the running for the 20-year-old, with negotiations potentially beginning with a loan-to-buy option.

Gnonto is claimed to find the prospect of another season in the Championship “unappealing” after failing to achieve promotion to the Premier League the previous season.

Will Wilfried Gnonto leave Leeds United for the right price?

Gnonto, like Crysencio Summerville, is one of Leeds’ strongest attackers, having helped the club to 90 points in the Championship previous season.

However, now that the Dutchman has one foot out of the Elland Road exit door, they desperately need offensive reinforcements.

And, while it may appear unproductive for the Whites to allow Gnonto’s departure, he has been linked with a move in both of the last two summer transfer windows and may not want to stay.

Leeds will certainly want to prevent a ‘Groundhog Day’ scenario with Gnonto, so if he does leave, the club must ensure that a deal is quickly agreed upon.

The sale of the 20-year-old might help fund acquisitions across the board, especially with the cash infusion from Summerville’s departure, but it would actually set them back even farther.

The club has already been connected with a bid for another Dutchman, Sontje Hansen, to replace Summerville [Voetbal International, 3 August], but only time will tell if these rumours come true.
