Daniel Farke is short on midfield alternatives at Leeds United with the injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev in the last week, and the need for a fresh acquisition is developing in that area.
Farke has hinted at attracting a free agent to Leeds, but 2014 World Cup champion Christoph Kramer is unlikely to rejoin Farke. The German wishes to remain in his own country after leaving Gladbach.
Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell are Leeds’ senior midfield options. Charlie Crew and Sam Chambers have been on the bench in Leeds’ previous two games, against Norwich and Sunderland.
Pascal Struijk, like Max Wober, can play in the midfield. However, the latter is hurt, and as a result, Struijk is left with little support at centre back. It is a real issue that Farke will face in the coming months.
However, a fresh claim suggests that Jordan Henderson might be the solution to Leeds’ problems, as the former Liverpool captain may be on the move again after leaving Anfield in the summer of 2023.
Jordan Henderson is getting interest from Championship clubs
According to the Sun, Premier League and Championship clubs are on high alert for a possible deal for Henderson, who is 34. Henderson, Ajax’s captain, is having difficulty starting for the Dutch giants on a consistent basis.
There could be a tax issue following his departure from Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, but Henderson is convinced it will not be a problem. With January just a few months away, Henderson might return to English football.
The story suggests a probable return to home club Sunderland, who remain top of the Championship table following Illan Meslier’s error on Friday night. But Leeds need a midfielder, and Henderson fits the description.
The issue Leeds has needs to be resolved sooner than the January window.
A short-term loan deal for Henderson would be ideal if he could leave Ajax right now. However, with the transfer window closed until January 1, Leeds cannot make a move
.
Leeds required additions yesterday. With Ampadu and Gruev out until the new year, Leeds need a midfielder until they return, and Henderson would be ideal until he terminates his current Ajax contract.
That is a possibility if his playing time remains unchanged. If Ampadu or Gruev suffer a setback in their rehabilitation, Henderson might become an attractive option, but Leeds need a fresh signing straight away.
However, there is no doubt that if Henderson were to move to the Championship, only a few clubs would be able to tempt and finance him. Leeds are one club who could want the 81-time England international.
