Virgil van Dijk’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain, amid suggestions linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.
This information comes from The Athletic’s deal DealSheet, with journalists involved revealing that Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr has yet to contact Arne Slot’s club to negotiate a prospective deal.
“The news [on Leny Yoro] came as reports emerged that Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr was in contact with Virgil van Dijk’s representatives regarding a possible move. Senior Liverpool insiders, who wished to remain anonymous to protect relationships, said there has been no contract from Al Nassr regarding any deal, as reported by the outlet.
“The Dutch international has one year left on his contract but remains an important figure for new head coach Arne Slot. However, if no new contract is reached, he will be a free agent next summer, free to join any team.”
This comes amid frequent updates on Liverpool’s interest in Lille defender Leny Yoro.
Van Dijk is joined on the list of expiring contracts by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah, both of whom have current contracts that will expire in the summer of 2025.
Liverpool cannot afford to lose Virgil Van Dijk in 2025.
Unlike the worries surrounding Mo Salah following his first severe injury for Liverpool, there is no doubt in our minds that our No.4’s long-term destiny lies at Anfield.
The 32-year-old (who will turn 33 in July) is still in excellent shape, and his defensive instincts show no signs of diminishing. If anything, we’ve arguably seen the greatest version of the Dutch captain since his horrific injury at the hands of Everton’s Jordan Pickford.
We must do everything possible to keep Virgil at L4 after the 2025 contract deadline.
No more excuses.
