Former Everton manager Keith Wyness believes Leeds United will sell some of their key players this summer to help balance the books.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, admitted teenage sensation Archie Gray could be sold after being linked with a move away from Elland Road.
On May 26, Football Insider revealed that Leeds must recuperate an astronomical £150 million in player sales as a result of their promotion failure due to outstanding transfer payments.
Gray, 18, has sparked interest from many top clubs following his breakout season in West Yorkshire, while Wilfried Gnonto, 20, and Crysencio Summerville, 22, are also expected to move this summer.
On May 28, Football Insider stated that the Championship side will do “everything they can” to keep Gray at Elland Road next season.
Leeds United could sell Archie Gray to fix their PSR issues.
Wyness feels that player sales will be the only way Leeds can avoid violating the profit and sustainability (PSR) guidelines.
He said on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “We are still expecting some of their players to leave.
“Even Archie Gray, who is obviously a Leeds fan, has been connected with a few clubs.
“I expect to see their major stars leave.
“They will have to put together a good Championship squad. I believe they can still accomplish it.
“Leeds are a large club. They can always challenge in the Championship, but it is not easy, as they have just discovered.
“Based on what I’ve heard from sources, I expect their major names to go.
“That’s where the PSR issue will have to be solved.”
