Nottingham Forest have a handful of players away playing Nations League games during the most recent international break.
One of such is Neco Williams, who appears to be playing a significant role in a new era for Welsh football, with Craig Bellamy taking charge from Rob Page after the country failed to qualify for Euro 2024.
Williams played in a more advanced role for Wales in a 2-1 win over Montenegro last night, and it appears that he earned some high praise for his efforts.
The 22-year-old has been a regular in the Forest team since Nuno Espirito Santo took over, and he hopes to stay there and continue to win his spot.
Atlanta had interest in Williams over the summer. However, they did not come close to matching his worth, and he is still a member of the Forest squad.
National media delivers verdict on Neco Williams’ performance.
Wales dominated the first three minutes Friday night, with Bellamy’s team leading 2-0.
Montenegro did come back into the game, but the game was over, and Wales secured a crucial three points in the Nations League.
Following his performance, certain media sites rated the player out of ten, and Williams received some positive feedback for his most recent appearance for his country.
Y Clwb Pel-Droed gave him an 8/10, saying: “Williams began in a more advanced role where he looked to cause problems before returning to defence following Roberts’ injury.” He was a defensive worker, putting his body on the line and covered every blade of grass.”
Wales Online was equally impressed, giving him a 7/10, indicating that he is “really assured in possession.” “I was caught off guard a couple of times, but overall, it was a pretty successful outing.”
Williams is still very much a work in progress at Forest.
Last night, Williams assisted his country, passing to Harry Wilson, who unleashed an unbelievable long-range attempt.
During his time at the City Ground, his offensive ability has never been questioned; nonetheless, he has only one goal and two assists.
That is insufficient for a player who is said to be better at attacking than at defending.
With that in mind, Williams must continue to improve, and with options now spread across the squad, the Welshman will want to bring his national team form to Forest in the coming months.
