“We are committed”: Matz Sels identifies one area Nottingham Forest is attempting to improve

Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday, and Matz Sels played again for the Reds.

Forest signed the Belgian goalkeeper in the January transfer window, and he has shown to be a better option than Matt Turner.

Sels has forced his way into Belgium’s lineup since joining Forest, earning acclaim during the most recent international break.

The 32-year-old will not be a long-term solution for Forest, and a younger option between the posts may be sought in the summer.

However, the goalkeeper is a reliable pair of hands, and he has shown some excellent form between the posts for Forest.

After Saturday’s draw with Wolves, Sels faced the media, and he made a claim that some Forest supporters may find strange.

Matz Sels believes Forest needs to develop.

Forest supporters will be surprised to learn that the team is working relentlessly on set pieces.

The reason the assertion is so astounding is that Forest has conceded 22 goals from dead ball situations this season.

Sels, on the other hand, believes that it is not due to a lack of effort or preparation, and that set pieces are being improved.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “A couple of days before matches, we practice on both defensive and offensive set-pieces.

“I’ve been coming here every week. We are devoted to it.

“We are always working on it, and we have modified the strategy several times, but we are still conceding goals like this.

“It’s everyone. It is not just one guy. We need to be more alert before corners. It’s something everyone should do better.”

Forest should have signed a Belgian during the summer.

This season, the Reds’ goalie situation has been a nightmare.

Turner has made high-profile mistakes, while Odysseas Vlachodimos also attempted to lie when called upon.

Sels would cost less than the other two goalkeepers, and Forest would very likely have scored a few more points if he had stayed all season.

The player cost only £5 million from Strasbourg, and he already looks like a bargain given his price tag.

Sels is undoubtedly due for more clean sheets after his efforts at Forest, and maybe he can keep a few between now and the conclusion of the season.

The goalkeeper may not have gloated over Wolves’ second goal at the weekend, but he has consistently performed admirably for Forest.
