Wayne Rooney praised Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison for his defensive work rate following Everton’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
The Leeds loanee started the Merseyside Derby and had a strong effect off the right wing under Sean Dyche.
Harrison and Ben Godfrey were able to hold off Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez in the opening half. Former Everton player Rooney expressed his admiration for the wide man during a Sky Sports Main Event interview.
He remarked, “Harrison, not so much with the ball, but the effort he’s put in to double up and help out. He helped get the supporters involved, turning it into a real derby.”
Should Leeds United keep Jack Harrison?
Rooney’s comments will strike a chord with Leeds fans who recall Harrison’s tireless performances.
He enjoyed a successful tenure with the Whites under Marcelo Bielsa, securing promotion to the Premier League. This includes playing every Championship game until the league was won.
His form only improved when the division shifted. He had eight goals and eight assists in his first Premier League season before scoring eight and assisting one in his second, according to FotMob.
Even though Leeds were relegated last season, he contributed six goals and eleven assists across all competitions.
With figures like that, it’s clear to conclude he was too excellent for the Championship, where he now plays on loan for Everton. In only 22 league appearances this season, he has three goals and three assists.
Having said that, he will undoubtedly be a valuable player if Leeds are promoted.
As Jaidon Anthony returns to Bournemouth, a wide midfielder will be required, and Harrison might be an ideal candidate.
