Dan James has been one of Leeds United’s most important players so far this season.
The Whites have had a terrific season so far, sitting atop the Championship with 14 games remaining.
With relatively little time remaining in the season, the league is starting to take shape as each game gains in importance week on week.
Daniel Farke will need his key players to come up and there is no better than the Wales international to have a meaningful influence in LS11.
David Prutton chooses Ben Doak over Leeds United player Dan James.
The winger recruited from Manchester United had a tough start at Elland Road, but he appears to have regained his feet.
This season, he has contributed 10 goals and six assists in the Championship, ranking second in the Whites’ squad after Joel Piroe.
As a result, it appeared like the 27-year-old was a lock to make David Prutton’s Team of the Year thus far, but this is not the case.
Speaking on the Essential EFL podcast (13 February), the former Whites midfielder chose Middlesbrough loanee Ben Doak.
He remarked, “Picking Ben Doak demonstrates how well we believe he is performing.
“Wonderful ball handler; I know the powers that be at Liverpool have very high expectations for this player. He’s demonstrated that he’s more than capable in the Championship.
“He’s got something ridiculous like the most entries into the opposition’s box which causes chaos and opens up the game for his teammates.”
David Putton gets Daniel James’ verdict wrong at Leeds United.
It’s safe to say that the 19-year-old has been quite positive this season while on loan from Liverpool at the Riverside.
Having said that, his two goals and seven assists have contributed to Michael Carrick’s playoff drive, but Boro are currently ninth, trailing Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City.
As a result, it is reasonable to claim that the winger could have had a greater impact in propelling his temporary team higher up the Championship table.’
On the other hand, James has made significant contributions to a team that currently leads the table and is firmly in contention for automatic promotion.
If the Whites make it to the Premier League, the Welshman will have had a significant impact, as much as anyone in the second tier.
If that is to be the case, there is no real grounds to say that Doak has been better than the former Swansea City attacker in the Championship.
