Rangers defied expectations, finishing seventh in the Europa League table.

While their domestic record has been terrible, Philippe Clement’s side has always managed to pick up a gear or two when competing in the Europa League.

The 2024/25 season has been odd for both fans and Clement, as they have frequently demanded his resignation following dismal league performance.

However, it appears that the Belgian is safe for the time being, and with only a few days remaining in the winter transfer window, now is the moment for Clement to make things right at Ibrox.

So, the Gers have got a £4.1 million windfall as a result of the £376,402.50 they won for their win against Union Saint-Gilloise, as well as the £3,789,118m they will receive for finishing in the Europa League’s top eight. [Scottish Coefficient, 30 January].

One new face has already been added to Rangers’ defensive ranks, but it appears that more work remains to be done if the club is to compete in the Europa League’s later rounds.

Rangers need to use their £4.1 million to improve their ranks.

If the Ibrox club could translate their success on the European stage to the local scene, they’d be a force to be reckoned with.

Many things have not gone well for the Gers this season, including injuries to several first-team players and the looming question of whether Clement would be removed of his duties.

However, even if the Ibrox outfit has managed to skate by, it appears that they could benefit from some fresh signings.

Nils Koppen has been at the heart of the Gers’ transfer business in recent seasons, but he has most likely been hampered by a shortage of funds.

However, now that the Gers have got an inflow of cash, it appears that the financing should be directed toward increasing their ranks in order to have a better second half of the season.

Because if things continue as they are, it is difficult to see how Glasgow can improve. However, Koppen may now have the opportunity to pull off a transfer masterstroke in the last days of this window.
