Max Wober, a Leeds United loanee, could return to Elland Road at the conclusion of the season despite a developing “crisis” at Borussia Monchengladbach, according to Sky Sports Germany.
During a heated debate with the defender on their website on February 21, the defender urged his teammates to stop making excuses and get back to work.
The leadership he has demonstrated since joining the Bundesliga club would be beneficial to Leeds should he return, and much more so if they are promoted to the Premier League.
Gladbach is now 15th in the Bundesliga, six points above the relegation playoff spot, and has won only one of their past nine games.
Can Max Wober return to Leeds United?
Wober’s loan arrangement is set to expire at the conclusion of the season, and with three years remaining on his contract at Elland Road, the opportunity for him to return remains very much open.
He had already remarked about Leeds’ style of play this season, describing it as “really cool football,” and revealed that he had no control over his future if Leeds win promotion.
Negotiations between Monchengladbach and Leeds reportedly began in January over a permanent move for Wober, but with no buy clause in his loan agreement, his price tag may be too much for the German club to afford.
If a settlement cannot be reached, concerns will be raised about his attitude when he returns to Elland Road. Despite his leadership in Germany, he is still one of the Leeds players who left the club after it was relegated.
With the club having moved on under Daniel Farke’s leadership, whether any of their loanees would find a position upon their return has been a source of contention, with their futures still unknown.
