Daniel Farke has some significant decisions to make over his Leeds United starting lineup ahead of Sunday’s Championship showdown with Millwall at Elland Road.
The Whites won 2-0 over Sheffield Wednesday in their last game, closing the distance on Leicester at the top of the table to just three points with nine games remaining.
And, with a nine-day break and an upcoming international break, Farke will need to make some selection decisions, with several players suffering for form despite solid performances in previous weeks.
Leeds United’s defence is the backbone of their success.
Illan Meslier has the most clean sheets in the Championship this season, and his performance has vindicated Farke’s decision to maintain him as number one.
Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu have forged a fantastic defensive partnership in the absence of Pascal Struijk, conceding only three goals in the league since December 29th.
Given the break in action either side of this game, the manager is likely to go with his strongest alternatives at full-back, which means Archie Gray and Junior Firpo should get the nod over Sam Byram and Connor Roberts.
Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev’s connection in midfield has blossomed, with both guys comfortable in possession while also being defensively attentive, resulting in excellent balance that allows the forwards to do their thing.
Should Crysencio Summerville be dropped?
Wilfried Gnonto’s form has been great in recent weeks, and he added another goal at Hillsborough, which should cement his spot in the team, but Farke must decide who else starts.
Crysencio Summerville is now experiencing his greatest slump of the season, with 0 goals or assists in his last six outings, although Dan James has returned from injury in fine form.
However, the manager is known for being loyal to his players, and Summerville has been the standout performer this season, so he should keep his place while Wales international James is forced to settle for a bench spot.
Centrally, Georginio Rutter and Patrick Bamford have formed an excellent partnership that should continue from the beginning.
