Daniel Farke could make two changes to Leeds United’s starting eleven for their Championship playoff semi-final against Norwich.
The Whites had lost four of their past six games and enter the match after a 2-1 setback to Southampton at Elland Road on the penultimate day of the season, while Norwich secured their playoff spot despite a 1-0 loss to Birmingham.
Both clubs will now compete for a place at Wembley later this month, and Farke will be aware that improvements must be done in order to win against his former club again.
‘Embarrassing’ Junior Firpo must be fired by Leeds United.
Illan Meslier has conceded a number of goals in recent weeks, and many supporters believe he might have done better for some. However, he remains the best option between the sticks and will keep his spot on the team.
However, considering recent performances, at least one change in defence is expected, with Junior Firpo almost certainly sliding out of the lineup. The left-back’s performance was dubbed “embarrassing” during the Southampton game, and with Sam Byram fit and available, he should go to the left.
That will allow Archie Gray to return to the team after being dropped, taking up the right-back position he has made his own, with Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu partnering up in the center once more.
With few other choices, Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara will start beside each other in midfield, and they will need to perform well to win at Carrow Road.
Farke has a decision to make before they assault. Daniel James hopes to return from an abdominal ailment, but Wilfried Gnonto has been in fine form and should get the nod.
Crysencio Summerville on the left is a lock to start unless there are any injuries or concerns, but the central alternatives may vary.
