Leeds United staged a spectacular comeback at Elland Road, defeating Leicester City 2-1 and moving to within six points of the Championship lead.
The Whites fell behind early in the first half when Patson Daka flicked over a corner to the back post for Wout Faes to nod into an empty net, leaving Leeds to rue wasted opportunities from Joel Piroe and Wilfried Gnonto on either side.
Leicester dominated the second half and had a second goal controversially called out for offside, but Daniel Farke’s side failed to apply persistent pressure.
But with 11 minutes remaining, the ball broke to replacement Connor Roberts in the area, who drilled a low drive into the corner for an equalizer. Just minutes later, Archie Gray hammered a left-footed drive that deflected twice and went into the net, giving Leeds a 2-1 lead and three points.
Dan James sealed the game with a stunning free kick in injury time.
Impressive Illan Meslier – 8/10
Meslier produced an outstanding performance between the sticks, regardless of the outcome. At 1-0 down, some huge saves kept the squad in the game, but they couldn’t stop the goal.
Archie Gray – 6/10.
Stephy Mavididi wore out the 17-year-old all night, teaching him a valuable lesson. His possession play was less secure as normal, and he struggled defensively against the winger. But what a moment to start your account with a winning goal.
Joe Rodon: 4/10.
Rodon has been an excellent signing this season, but he struggled in this match. In possession, he was careless, got booked early, which made him struggle in duels, and was frequently dragged out of position.
Ethan Ampadu – 5/10.
His ball-handling abilities and ability to work in tight areas were greatly missed in midfield during this game. It was the first time Leeds lacked his presence, and he didn’t have as much influence on the game as he would have liked.
Junior Firpo – 4/10
The left-back had a difficult night, failing to combine with Summerville down the wing and struggled defensively against Abdul Fatawu.
Ilia Gruev – 4/10.
The Bulgarian has been in excellent form recently, but his safe passing did little to break down a tenacious Leicester team in this match. It also didn’t do much to slow down the transitions.
Glen Kamara – 3/10
Kamara was probably lucky to play full 90 minutes because his normal fire and steel weren’t present tonight, but his defense was strong near the end to help secure the victory.
Wilfried Gnonto – 4/10
Gnonto started the game off strong with direct running and pace, but his decision-making was awful for the duration of the night. One moment in particular disappointed him since he should have shot but did not, and that summed up his entire night.
Georginio Rutter – 7/10.
Rutter struggled to get much going in the first 45 minutes, but he remained relentless in his dribbling and ingenuity, and his efforts were rewarded with goals. What a player.
Crysencio Summerville (4/10)
Summerville had a slow night at Elland Road, despite his impressive performance this season. Leicester doubled him up with Ricardo Pereira and Hamza Choudhury, and he struggled to get anything going.
Stinker for Joel Piroe.
Joel Piroe – 2/10.
Despite Patrick Bamford’s fitness, the Dutch striker was given the nod up front once more, and he was shocking. Missed a golden chance at 0-0 and had little influence on the game before being replaced shortly after the hour mark.
