On Tuesday, Daniel Farke had to rely on his big weapons to beat Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup. They eventually succeeded, thanks to Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.
Summerville, 22, curled in a magnificent goal to give Leeds the lead after extra time, only to set up Georginio Rutter’s effort. Our third. Ryan Hardie headed Ilia Gruev’s corner kick into his own net.
A well-deserved triumph, even if Farke would have liked not to deploy players like Summerville and Rutter. But it did saw Summerville surpass 20 goals and assists this season.
Already, he has 13 goals and eight assists. The first Leeds player to have a role in 20 goals since Patrick Bamford scored 17 and set up eight in our first season back in the Premier League in 2020-21.
Victor Orta is currently receiving a lot of criticism, and rightfully so. He was to blame for numerous disappointing signings, as well as the decision to fire Marcelo Bielsa and replace him with Jesse Marsch. Don’t get us started on the loan clauses.
Crysencio Summerville might be one of Leeds’ best-ever signings.
However, Orta’s reputation has been tarnished by his most recent work. It should also be noted that he performed excellent business in the transfer market. Raphinha, Illan Meslier, and Pascal Struijk have all made excellent signings.
Raphinha made a large profit, and Meslier and Struijk are now critical to Leeds. But of all the signings he made while at Leeds, Summerville is the standout. Summerville, who was only 22 at the time, was purchased for only £1.3 million.
Orta signed better players than Summerville, including Raphinha. However, when it comes to both value for money and quality, Summerville is impossible to beat. Based on his performances this season, he is Orta’s best signing.
Summerville could be one of Leeds United’s best-ever purchases if he maintains his remarkable form not just this season, but also in the Premier League next season, especially given his low price.
