Stan Collymore has been recounting what he was taught while at Nottingham Forest a few weeks back.
The former striker has been talking about club problems on TalkSPORT following the club’s four-point deduction.
Collymore has been discussing who he spoke with and what he learned when he met with the Forest administration a few weeks ago.
What Stan Collymore heard from the Forest hierarchy
Collymore appears to have put his journalistic abilities to good use here, providing TalkSPORT with an exclusive.
He was at Forest some time ago and had the opportunity to speak with some of the club’s hierarchy.
Collymore believes that Forest will be highly appealing and that the club has been treated unfairly.
He stated live on TalkSPORT: “It will be appealed.” I was to Forest the other week and spoke with some folks behind the club, and they feel really unfairly done by.
“I believe the general view among Forest and Everton is that they cooperated with the Premier League at all times, and the fines have been unusually severe.
“From a Forest standpoint, particularly from the chairman down, not necessarily the owner, they would have to doff their cap to the Premier League, possibly accept the punishment, and focus on the last eight or nine games.
“If they stay up and take the four points, it will be a worthwhile exercise and lesson learnt, but if they go down then it won’t.”
Collymore believes the Reds will now be appealing, but they may not be successful.
Given that Forest has only been deducted four points and is still within touching distance of Luton, we don’t think appealing is the best option.
It may not be successful, which implies that the situation will continue to drag on.
According to David Ornstein, Forest has been very cooperative with the Premier League since the charge, and an appeal could now poke the bear.
Everton is facing another point deduction, and they could be driven much closer to Forest in the Premier League standings.
Forest’s willingness to appeal is remarkable, and while Collymore appears to be enthusiastic about it, it may not be the best decision for Fores.
