The transfer window will end in a few days, and several teams have work to do.
Newcastle United may want to make some new additions to help them battle for the top four, and sells may also be important at St James’ Park given recent profit and sustainability concerns.
Meanwhile, Leeds United must fight hard to reclaim their place in the Premier League.
Newcastle are set to sell Matt Targett this month, and Leeds are interested in the left-back.
Keith Downie of Sky Sports has provided an update on Leeds’ interest in the left-back via his YouTube channel.
Leeds hold Matt Targett discusses while waiting for Junior Firpo’s move.
Downie discussed what he has heard about Targett and Leeds.
The journalist provided an update that he had not previously published, indicating that Leeds has recently spoken with Targett, but they are waiting to see what happens with Junior Firpo, since Real Sociedad is interested in the former Barcelona player.
Leeds have also been connected with Cameron Archer in recent months.
“I expect Matt Targett to leave. I haven’t mentioned it anywhere yet, but I was told yesterday that there had been some negotiations with Leeds, but Leeds are waiting to hear what’s going on with their left-back, Junior Firpo,” Downie added.
“There’s some interest from Real Sociedad there, so if Firpo leaves, Targett could be an option, but Firpo is still with Leeds. I’ve also been told that Southampton and Watford are interested in Targett, and I was told a few weeks ago that Leicester were also interested.
Matt Targett Championship statistics
\Matt Targett has spent the majority of his professional career in the Premier League, but he has previously played in the Championship.
Indeed, Targett made a similar move to the prospective loan to Leeds when he joined Fulham for the second half of the 2018/19 season.
The full-back quickly established himself as the first-choice at Craven Cottage, and he had an outstanding record while at Fulham.
Targett’s arrival in January was a trigger for Fulham’s spectacular second-half run, which culminated in promotion to Wembley Stadium in the playoff final.
Targett was not only an excellent full-back, but his arrival also allowed Ryan Sessegnon to play further advanced on the left wing and score several important goals.
Leeds will be hoping that Targett can have a similar impact if he moves to Elland Road before the transfer window closes.
