Nottingham Forest had a pretty low-key transfer deadline day by their usual standards, with just two new players being added to the squad.
James Ward-Prowse checked in from West Ham for the season, whilst Morato penned a five-year contract with Forest after joining from Benfica.
In total, 11 new players were added, with two of them – Marko Stamenic and David Carmo – both immediately joining Olympiacos on loan.
It’s perhaps the club’s outgoing business that has to be considered the biggest success story of the summer window.
Including last season’s loan players and the out-of-contract performers, the Reds have got 24 players off the books either permanently or on loan.
Club director hails Alex Mighten after Nottingham Forest departure
Shortly before the transfer window slammed shut in the UK, Forest announced that Mighten had joined San Diego from the City Ground.
The youngster has joined Nordsjaelland in Denmark on loan for the remainder of the season and the MLS outfit have big hopes for him.
Sporting Director, Tyler Heaps told the club’s official website: “Alex is an exciting addition to San Diego FC, bringing the energy and creativity we seek in our attacking players.
“He has unique and special qualities with his ability to unbalance defenders and we are excited to see what he can contribute and bring to MLS.”
It could be wise to leave Forest.
For a long time, the Reds winger appeared to be destined for success at the football club, and he did contribute to the promotion-winning season of 2021/22.
However, a number of loan spells have failed him, and it was not his fault.
Darren Moore took him to Sheffield Wednesday despite playing a system that did not fit Mighten, and when he took the Port Vale position, Mighten fell out of favour.
At 22, Mighten still has a lot of promise, and he showed at Forest that he can play in a variety of front-line positions.
He made 67 appearances for Trentside, scoring four goals and assisting twice.
Now he has the opportunity to really get rolling with a club, and the MLS could be the perfect place for his career to take off, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in the following years.
