With the January transfer window closing, Nuno Espirito Santo has failed to add to Nottingham Forest’s impressive summer signings.
Nikola Milenkovic’s arrival from Fiorentina was the best of the lot, as the Serbian formed an excellent partnership with Murillo at the heart of the defence.
This defense is so solid that Milenkovic and Murillo have been likened to Arsenal’s defense this season, which is astonishing given how impressive the North London club is defensively under Mikel Arteta.
Elliot Anderson, an English midfielder, was also a key signing. Anderson joined Forest from Newcastle United and has become an ever-present in the Forest squad, with five Premier League assists so far.
However, not all signings are successful, with one new star in particular battling for game time under Espirito Santo, to the point that he has already been linked with a move away from the City Ground.
Ramon Sosa connected with a fast departure from Nottingham Forest.
Paraguayan winger Ramon Sosa joined Forest from Talleres in August to provide competition and talent in the wide areas on which the Forest manager relies heavily for his counterattacking style.
Despite this, Sosa has only started one Premier League match this season. However, Forest fans were ecstatic with Sosa’s performance in the FA Cup victory over Luton.
He has clearly not done enough to persuade the Forest management that he deserves a spot in the squad, as journalist Lucas Pedrosa has connected Sosa with a move away from Nottinghamshire.
Pedrosa went on, saying, “The 25-year-old Paraguayan does not want to return to South American football.”
While this may rule out the chance of Sosa joining any of the clubs mentioned by Pedrosa, his statistics in his short game time suggest he may still have something to offer Evangelos Marinakis.
Ramon Sosa has succeeded during his limited starts for Nottingham Forest.
Espirito Santo stated that Sosa is lower down the Forest pecking order despite scoring his first goal in English football in September’s draw with Brighton.
However, his most outstanding performance came in one of his rare starts, Forest’s FA Cup victory over Luton Town.
Sosa started the game wonderfully by crossing for Ryan Yates to score the game’s first goal after 40 minutes.
Things got even better for Sosa in the second half, when he combined superbly with fellow peripheral winger Jota Silva to score his second goal in Forest red.
By no means has he done enough to replace Callum Hudson-Odoi, especially because Forest fans believe Hudson-Odoi merits an England call-up.
Sosa has demonstrated that he is precisely what Forest paid for: a dependable squad option who can contribute well when given the opportunity by Espirito Santo.
