In recent weeks, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a deal for French international defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has been superb for OGC Nice in Ligue 1 and has piqued the interest of the north London club.
Fabrizio Romano of CaughtOffside has disclosed in his column that the 24-year-old defender was a priority target for Tottenham this month, but the deal has already fallen through.
The French club is unwilling to sell the defender this month, so any deal would have to wait until the summer transfer window.
“We know that Jean-Clair Todibo was also a top target for Tottenham, but Nice are not open to selling the player in January, so that deal has basically collapsed now.”
Tottenham really needs quality center defenders, and Todibo would have been an excellent addition. He has excelled in the French league and has the potential to play well in the Premier League as well.
Tottenham have shown defensively fragile in recent weeks, and they require quality defenders to tighten up at the back and challenge for Champions League qualifying. The French international could have made a significant defensive impact for them.
It will be intriguing to see if Tottenham can sign a competent central defense before the end of the January transfer window. They are now looking to sign Romanian defender Radu Dragusin.
It would be fascinating to see whether the Premier League team decides to return for the 24-year-old at the end of the season after missing out on a quality player like Todibo.
