Tottenham have once again been linked with a move for Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati.
The club came close to signing him last summer, after being offered the chance to sign him and even had a chat with Ange Postecoglou.
Balague suggested that Spurs were initially the favorites to sign the young talent, and a deal was reportedly on the brink of completion.
According to Balague, Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi’s persuasive skills played a crucial role in convincing Fati to join the south coast club.
But his move to Brighton did not live up to the high expectations raising doubts about his ability to adapt to the English game. He made 27 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 4 and assisting 1 across all competitions.
Spurs have now once again been presented with an opportunity to sign him. Fati has found game time limited under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, with just eight appearances this season.
The Catalan club is reportedly open to parting ways with the player, creating an opportunity for Spurs to make their move.
Tottenham submit bid to sign Ansu Fati on loan
According to the latest from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona are keen on offloading Fati, in order to create space for Marcus Rashford whome they have already agreed personal terms with. They want to offload some wages in order to financially afford Rashford’s signature.
According to the same report, Tottenham have now launched a loan proposal for the 22-year-old, with the option to make the deal permanent at the conclusion of the season.
Ansu Fati, who has also been linked with a move to West Ham, has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising young players after breaking into Barcelona’s first squad through their renowned La Masia academy.
He became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer in 2019, at the age of 16, and later set records in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. In 120 games across all competitions with the Barcelona first squad, he scored 29 goals and assisted nine. (Transfermarkt)
Spurs are anxious for attacking reinforcements due to the club’s injury crisis. After failing to sign Randal Kolo Muani, they appear to have turned their attention to Ansu Fati. It remains to be seen whether they can effectively sign him before the transfer window closes.
