Tottenham Hotspur may have to negotiate with Manchester City to sign one of their alleged striker targets this month, as the Premier League winners may use their buy-back clause.
Tottenham remain candidates for Premier League striker.
The most of the conjecture over the last several days has focused on Tottenham’s pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani, with Spurs said to have made progress in their quest to recruit the PSG star.
While it is evident that the Frenchman is a priority target, Spurs are also looking at another Premier League attacker.
Just a few days ago, journalist Ben Jacobs maintained that Tottenham should not be counted out of the competition for Ipswich striker Liam Delap, despite Chelsea being the current front-runners to recruit him.
Manchester City might complicate Tottenham’s pursuit of Liam Delap.
Keith Wyness, former Everton and Aston Villa CEO, has warned that Tottenham’s pursuit of Delap may not be straightforward.
He revealed that City has a buy-back clause on their academy graduate and could opt to exercise it and sell him for a profit.
Wyness told Football Insider: “I’ve been speaking with friends of mine who are familiar with Liam Delap’s career and have followed him attentively. They give him a good rating. They consider him a classic forward. He’s physical, built, quick, and youthful; he’s got all the proper skills.
“City has the buy-back, but I believe if they acquire Marmoush, they will be willing to strike a deal to bring him back and resell him. I believe he will play elsewhere in the Premier League. Most clubs will consider him when seeking for a striker.
Tottenham may not turn to Liam Delap until the summer.
Tottenham may consider Delap as a long-term replacement for Richarlison, who is expected to leave the club in the summer.
Ange Postecoglou would likely prefer a more versatile option this season, since Tottenham require reinforcements in wide areas.
Delap will not be able to provide that because he is a pure centre-forward who would only act as a backup to Dominic Solanke. It may not make sense for Spurs to commit £35 million to £40 million in that type of player.
