Tottenham fans are all talking the same thing about Mathys Tel’s debut

After much pursuit throughout the winter transfer window, French forward Mathys Tel made his Tottenham Hotspur debut quickly, and Spurs supporters have already offered their assessment.

    Mathys Tel debuts for Spurs.

Mathys Tel made his Tottenham Hotspur debut just four days after signing. Richarlison made his Carabao Cup debut from the bench against Liverpool, with Ange Postecoglou starting him ahead of the 19-year-old.

The young attacker’s moment arrived after Brazilian forward Richarlison was substituted in the 45th minute due to a calf injury.

Tel started at number nine against a determined Liverpool side that defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 and gave neither him nor Spurs a sniff throughout the game.

Tottenham Hotspur fans respond to Mathys Tel.

With Tottenham Hotspur’s exit from the Carabao Cup and Mathys Tel’s debut behind him, we headed to Twitter to ask Spurs fans what they thought of their new signing.

Many Tottenham fans chose to remain neutral, since there is some understanding for the forward, whose debut came against an in-form Liverpool side.

One admirer stated, “Tel was okay. He had a lot of heart but didn’t understand his new teammates. Seems to have a positive mindset, therefore we should see improvement soon.”

Another fan, Elkku, couldn’t comment on the forward’s debut; instead, he had harsh words for the club as a whole: “Can’t say nothing because our other players didn’t even try to help him in any way.”

Trader_007, like Elkku, thought that Tel’s teammates did not aid him as much during his debut. He answered, “He has no service, so I can’t criticize him. The senior players gave a terrible showing.’

Tommy Pickles, too, blamed the forward’s colleagues for his relatively quiet debut, saying: “If you don’t have a midfield, you can’t blame the striker.”

Ben H had a more upbeat outlook on his debut and highlighted some of the forward’s strengths. He stated: “Assured touch, plenty of mobility (even if nobody used it), and pleased to receive the ball in tight places. In contrast to many of our players, he plays with a sense of urgency. “Excited to see more of him.”

Tottenham Hotspur fans recognize Mathys Tel’s leadership qualities.

Mathys Tel, who led France’s U17 team to European triumph in 2022, is no stranger to leadership, and it was on full show in his 45-minute debut.

Grant, a Tottenham fan, commented, “Under the circumstances, it’s hard to evaluate him!! But for a young boy who has just joined the club and is making his debut!! I can’t fault his mentality of calling at senior players to push up, close down, and provide him the ball!! That will suffice for me!! COYS!!”

Despite not making his full debut, Mathys Tel has showed glimpses of what he can provide to Tottenham Hotspur. He is swift, adaptable, can move the ball in tight places, and is an excellent ball carrier.

However, given the caliber of the competition and the suddenness of Tel’s debut, it is difficult to rate him just on that one game. Aston Villa is up next, and with the injuries in the squad, Spurs fans should expect Tel to make his full debut soon.
