Tottenham Hotspur’s Fabrizio Romano has disclosed that the club intends to add at least one centre-back before the window closes, but could perhaps sign two.
Tottenham’s defensive crisis deepens.
In the encounter against IF Elfsborg in the Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur received an injury setback as Radu Dragusin was forced off shortly after going on for the returning Micky van de Ven.
Although Van de Ven’s comeback was a positive development, Tottenham’s lack of defensive depth has been a concern all season, with injuries halting progress and exposing their defensive fragility.
Following the centre-back’s injury, manager Ange Postecoglou hinted that Spurs may be in the market for another defender if the injury is long-term, saying: “I think depending on the extent of Radu’s (injury), it might be an area we need to look at and certainly this weekend (we are) exploring some options.”
Fabrizio Romano confirmed Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer position.
The issue surrounding Dragusin’s injury has now expedited Tottenham Hotspur’s search for defense reinforcements, as Fabrizio Romano has warned that Dragusin could be sidelined for a considerable period.
According to a well-known journalist, “Tottenham internally feel that Radu Dragusin’s knee injury could be serious, at least one and eventually two centre-backs will be joining in the final days.”
This news suggests that Spurs will make defensive acquisitions soon, with strengthening now being a primary focus as they try to turn around their terrible Premier League season.
Who have Tottenham been associated with?
Following Ange Postecoglou’s declaration that Tottenham Hotspur are considering their options, reports emerged linking the North London club with a bid for AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.
However, that pursuit looks to have stopped, as the England international has chosen to stay with the Serie A club rather than return to the Premier League this winter.
Tottenham have since turned their attention to other potential targets, with the latest reports indicating that Spurs have joined the race for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.
With Dragusin potentially facing a spell on the sidelines, securing at least one more centre-back could be the key to sustaining their ambitions of silverware for the rest of the campaign.
