Calvin Andrew praised Crysencio Summerville after his performance in Leeds United’s 3-0 win against Rotherham, claiming the winger is too good for the Championship.
The former Crystal Palace striker believes Summerville is finally demonstrating his full potential at this level after scoring twice to seal all three points for Leeds at Elland Road.
Andrew couldn’t laud the Dutchman enough, stating his ball-running style is unique in the current game and something he hasn’t seen from any other player in a long time.
Andrew exclaimed live on BBC Radio Leeds [10 February, 16:23]: “Like I said, I’ve viewed a lot of film on him. Last season in the Premier League, he showed real flashes of his talent.
“Stepping down a level couldn’t have been a greater opportunity for him to enhance his game and demonstrate to everyone what he’s capable of.
“To be honest, he is too good for the Championship level. I haven’t seen a player move with the ball like that in a long time.
“He glides with the ball with real speed and appears to effortlessly pass people. Players even try to foul him but are unable to do so. That is a rare.”
Leeds United might struggle to keep Summerville.
Given the degree of interest in Summerville’s signature from Premier League clubs, Leeds may struggle to keep him this summer if they do not achieve their goal of promotion from the Championship.
Performances like today’s, in which he demonstrated that he is clearly a class above many Championship sides, adding to his 14 goals and seven assists in the league this season, will do nothing to alleviate Leeds’ pressure to keep him at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke is bringing the best out of Summerville.
Andrew’s praise for the winger is similar to what Leeds fans have been telling anyone who will listen this year: he is easily a Premier League player with so much to appreciate in his game.
With the promotion race heating up due to Leeds and Southampton’s form, with Ipswich also competing despite a downturn in form, promotion to the Premier League might be the deciding factor in Leeds’ pursuit of keeping Summerville beyond the summer.
