According to Jeff Stelling, the Championship title race between Leicester City, Leeds United, and Ipswich Town will “absolutely come down to the wire” this season.
Daniel Farke’s side presently leads the Premiership table, level on points with second-place Leicester, who have a game in hand, and one point ahead of Kieran McKenna’s third-placed Ipswich Town.
While Stelling admits he is surprised the Foxes are still favourites to win the Championship this season, he believes the race for promotion to the Premier League will go all the way to the final weekend of the season.
On talkSPORT on Monday (18 March, 8:28), he said: “This might go down to the wire. There is only one point separating the top three, and Southampton is also in contention.
“Looking at Leicester’s current form, Leeds has won 12 of their previous 13 games, Ipswich has won seven of their last eight, and Leicester has lost three of their last five. Whether or whether Leicester is in the Premier League next season, Dewsbury-Hall will be, right?
Will Leeds United beat Leicester City and Ipswich Town to get promoted to the Premier League?
Few expected the Championship title fight to be so close at this point in the season, especially given Leicester’s early lead at the top of the table.
But Farke has managed to alter Leeds United since his arrival at Elland Road, particularly in the second half of the season, when the German has made the Whites nearly untouchable, especially in front of their home fans.
There is still a long way to go before anything in the Championship is settled, but Leeds are in a great position to return to the Premier League right away, and they will be full of confidence after finishing first in the league before the international break.
Hopefully, the Whites will be able to wrap up their campaign in the remaining weeks of the season, but as Stelling said, this race will go down to the wire.
