Timo Werner is expected to have his medical at Tottenham on Tuesday, after flying into London to conclude his loan move from Red Bull Leipzig. The 27-year-old will join on a six-month loan with the option to buy for £14.5 million, according to the Daily Mail.
Werner, a former Chelsea player, drew interest from other Premier League clubs, but he quickly decided to join Tottenham. He sees an opportunity to fit in with Ange Postecoglou’s style of play at Spurs.
After returning from Leipzig’s La Manga training camp in Germany on Sunday, Timo Werner is scheduled to begin training with his new Tottenham colleagues once his physical is complete.
Tottenham will be missing Son Heung-min for around a month while he competes in the Asia Cup, and Alejo Veliz has suffered a knee injury.
Saudi Arabia has also expressed interest in Richarlison.
Manchester United and Aston Villa have reportedly inquired about Timo Werner’s availability. However, conversations with Tottenham gained traction on Friday, resulting in an intensification of negotiations for the German striker.
The acquisition of the German international is fascinating, given that he previously failed in the Premier League with Tottenham’s rivals Chelsea. But if any coach can bring out the best in Werner, it’s Ange Postecoglou.
