The transfer hunt for Leeds United target heats up as Norwich City ‘reject’ offer for star forward

Leeds United wants to enhance their offensive options after losing talismanic winger Crysencio Summerville to West Ham United.

Things are heating up in the fight to sign Jonathan Rowe. Leeds United and French club Marseille are interested in Norwich City’s star player. Both teams hope to pull the England Under-21 international away from Carrow Road before the transfer window closes.

According to an HITC report, Marseille’s opening bid for Rowe, worth just shy of £10 million, was rejected by the Canaries. City are anxious to keep Rowe this summer, but the bid falls short of the winger’s valuation.

United aim to improve their offensive options following Crysencio Summerville’s exit, and they are one among several suitors looking into a trade for Rowe, who is in the final year of his Canaries contract, but the club has a 12-month option. Leeds and Norwich have held talks, although the Whites have yet to make an official offer for the midfielder. It has been said that the Whites began negotiations at around £7 million, while Norwich want closer to £15 million.

Rowe, one of the outstanding performers in the Championship last season, has travelled with City’s squad for their Championship start against Oxford United today. However, he has withdrew from the squad at his request, according to Norfolk’s Pink Un newspaper. Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup commended Rowe and Adam Idah’s professionalism following heavy transfer speculation about their futures.

“That’s the way it is. These people train with the group and are crucial players,” Thorup stated. “We must respect that the window is still open, as many things can happen. What happens is beyond our control.

“We have no control over whether or whether a club makes an offer. That is also what I tell my guys on a daily basis. Thankfully, they are doing well. They’re doing fine. They’re training well, and I’d say their minds are prepared to perform.”

Contrary to reports, United and Crystal Palace have yet to reach an agreement on a loan deal for highly rated winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. The 21-year-old is anticipated to leave Selhurst Park during the summer transfer window and is a player of interest for the Whites. However, Sheffield United, who thrashed Preston North End 2-0 yesterday night, are believed to be leading the battle to sign Rak-Sakyi.
