Leeds United are one of several clubs interested in recruiting a Premier League striker on loan this summer.
At this point, striker does not appear to be a top priority at Elland Road, but that could change between now and the end of the season.
Mateo Joseph is prepared for a successful solo campaign, but he must first dislodge Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford.
However, it is not guaranteed that they will both be Leeds players by August 30, with Bamford being someone the club is willing to move.
Piroe, meanwhile, is generating international interest after a volatile first season at Leeds following his big-money move from Swansea City.
Graeme Bailey shares a new Daniel Jebbison to Leeds update.
If both Bamford and Piroe leave, which seems improbable, Leeds will need to look for another striker.
Despite his obvious potential, Joseph would be unable to handle the responsibility alone, thus someone who could provide something unique would be beneficial.
Leeds had previously been interested in signing Daniel Jebbison following his decision to leave Sheffield United on a free transfer, but were outbid by Bournemouth.
However, Jebbison finds himself behind Dominic Solanke and Enes Unal at the Cherries, and might be sent out to the Championship to gain important game time.
Speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.News, transfer specialist Graeme Bailey says Jebbison faces a difficult decision, with Leeds and Sunderland among the clubs interested in signing him.
He said: “Leeds like Jebbison, as we know from their effort to sign him permanently, and now there is a chance they may get him on loan; it is all about promotion this season, and if Jebbison can help with that, that is the club’s major worry. But they are not alone, and the player must make an important decision.”
Leeds would need someone more experienced than Jebbison.
Though there are many reasons to trade Piroe and Bamford, doing so would result in the loss of two proven goal scorers at this level.
Both were in and out of the starting lineup throughout last season, but still managed to score a total of 23 league goals.
Given his lack of expertise at this level, Jebbison would not be an ideal option.
Leeds already has a promising young talent in Joseph waiting for his moment, so a somewhat older mind would greatly benefit the squad.
