Ian Foster, Plymouth Argyle’s manager, has spoken out following his team’s 4-1 defeat to Leeds United last night.
Argyle were able to hold Leeds to a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes of football, much as they did in the first game at Elland Road, but Leeds’ depth eventually showed.
Leeds brought on Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, and Archie Gray from the bench, and with plenty of space in extra time, the former two scored and assisted.
In the end, Leeds were able to make it look like a comfortable score by winning 4-1, with 210 minutes of play separating the two sides.
In his post-game news conference, Foster confessed that Leeds’ ‘talent’ off the bench was simply too much for his team to handle.
Foster appreciates Leeds’ quality off the bench
He stated, “I’m proud of how difficult we’ve made it for Leeds over two games.” The score is extremely sobering for us. The quality they brought on later on was quite difficult for us.”
Foster was very appreciative of Leeds before both last night’s game and the original tie, so it is not surprising that he is so candid in his evaluation of the encounter.
Leeds will go to Plymouth in just 10 days for another league game, but this will likely be an even more difficult challenge for Daniel Farke’s side, given the home team’s squad size last night.
Plymouth will have former Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw and Tottenham loanee Alfie Devine available in the league. They couldn’t even name a complete bench on Tuesday.
However, as demonstrated last night, Leeds have so much talent in their team that it is exceedingly tough for defenders at this level to deal with.
