The international manager of Nottingham Forest is concerned about the 29-year-old player’s absence

Gregg Berhalter, the USMNT’s head coach, is getting apprehensive that Nottingham Forest will not select Matt Turner.

The international boss has been speaking on Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union podcast. So, what has Berhalter said regarding the current scenario with Forest goalie Turner? Let’s look more closely.

Gregg Berhalter is concerned that Matt Turner is not playing for Forest.

Berhalter appears to be disappointed with Turner for the foreseeable future.

Under Nuno Espirito Santo, the Forest goalkeeper was given numerous opportunities to excel, but he consistently made mistakes.

The Reds have already signed Matz Sels from Strasbourg, and he appears to be the team’s first choice goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

Berhalter is concerned with Turner’s absence from the Forest starting eleven, and he has discussed it in recent weeks.

He stated on Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union podcast: “That is always a problem. Ideally, we want all of our players to play 90 minutes per week, be a valuable member of their squad, and contribute every week.

“This is not always the case. When I talk about ups and downs in our player pool, everyone experiences them at some point in their careers, and our goalkeepers are no exception.

“We’re convinced that they have the appropriate mindset to pull themselves out of this. You saw Ethan (Horvath) transfer from Forest to Cardiff, and he now plays every week.

“And, we’re confident that Matt, and whoever our other goalies are, are going to solve their situations and come out on the top end of it.”

Turner will need to wait for another chance.

Because of Turner, Forest will face Manchester United in the FA Cup last-16 next week. He saved the penalty against Bristol City, which helped Forest advance, but it appears doubtful he will face the Red Devils.

Turner appears to be untrustworthy to Espirito Santo at the moment, and the 29-year-old is unlikely to play again this season.

Turner’s concern is that his former Forest teammate Horvath is now playing regularly for Cardiff and will be vying for a place on the USMNT roster.

If Turner loses his position in the international squad, he will undoubtedly have to seriously rethink his future at Forest in the summer.

Given the state of the goalkeeping situation this season, Forest may not be able to prevent him from leaving.
