Newcastle United are preparing to announce Lloyd Kelly’s departure after he passed his Juventus medical.
Following Miguel Almiron’s return to Atlanta, Newcastle United are likely to announce Lloyd Kelly’s departure.
It was evident from the start of the summer window that Newcastle needed to sell players before making any new arrivals. On deadline day, that remains the case, but Newcastle will not make any new signings despite selling two players who have been in and around the first-team this season.
Almiron left Newcastle for the MLS after six years with the club, which should net the Magpies roughly £11 million and free up a substantial chunk of their pay cost.
Kelly’s departure from Newcastle appears to be a huge financial success, given that the player only joined the club in the summer. Newcastle will receive £20 million from Kelly’s Juventus move, which is considered pure profit after he came from Bournemouth on free transfer.
Newcastle fans have screamed out for new additions, but it does not appear that they will be made this season. The true reason why this will not happen has been exposed.
Why Newcastle won’t spend Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron’s money
Newcastle will end the window £30 million better off than when it began. That money should be enough to sign a quality player for Eddie Howe, who was hoping to add at least one new face to the squad during the window.
According to the Daily Mail, the club wants to maintain a solid position heading into the next PSR cycle. Newcastle sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh because of lucrative spending in previous windows and do not want a repeat of that again.
The report also claims that Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell believes Almiron and Kelly’s sales give them a much greater chance of keeping the likes of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon beyond this season.
Newcastle want to offer Isak a new deal, with discussions between the club and the player likely to begin at the end of the season.
Howe must now make do with his present roster until the end of the season.
Newcastle primed for summer PSR boost.
While the winter transfer window has been disappointing for Newcastle fans, they should expect a much busier window in the summer.
Newcastle will receive a £73 million PSR boost when their huge spending from the 2021/22 season ends. During that window, Howe signed numerous players, including Chris Wood, for £25 million.
The Magpies recouped a significant portion of that money when he joined Nottingham Forest a year later, but they have come to regret the move, as he now thrives under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Newcastle are presently fifth in the Premier League, which could be enough to bring them back into the Champions League. European football might play an important role in Newcastle’s transfer strategy and in maintaining players like Isak and Guimaraes.
Howe hoped to enhance three positions, including the right wing, during the transfer window, but the money were not accessible to him. He will be in a much better position to sign the players he genuinely wants this summer.
