Manchester City will host Leeds United in the FA Youth Cup final next month, with the Whites hoping to win the renowned trophy for the first time since 1997.
Leeds United’s Under-18s will meet Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup Final at the Etihad Stadium on Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m. The child will have the opportunity to write their name into the club’s history.
The Whites haven’t won the coveted competition since 1997. Rob Etherington’s side advanced to the final by defeating Millwall in a seven-goal thriller earlier this month.
More than 10,000 fans crowded Elland Road to watch United defeat the Lions. The Whites have also defeated Norwich City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Sheffield United, and Liverpool on their way to the final. United states that ticket details “will be announced in due course”. According to competition rules, away spectators will be entitled to only 15% of the home ground’s capacity.
The Football Association has loosened its own guidelines about when the final must be held. City, who overcame Bristol City in the other semi-final, normally host their Youth Cup games at the Academy Stadium.
The final was supposed to be played no later than May 4, but the defending Premier League winners meet Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad that day, while United face Southampton on the final day of the Championship season. The City Women are at home at the Academy Stadium on Sunday, May 5, making that weekend inaccessible. There were also logistical concerns with staging the final at the Etihad Stadium prior to that, causing the FA to relax its own rules and allow the final to be played one week later. On the same evening, Take That will perform at the new Co-op Live venue close to the Etihad.
