Daniel Farke has already talked down the success of departing footballers returning to play for their parent club, and that is what lies ahead for Brenden Aaronson at Leeds United.
Daniel Farke may have developed an affinity for microwaved meals since taking over as Leeds United manager last summer. In February, after Luis Sinisterra’s permanent departure from Bournemouth was negotiated, the German made his views on the club’s returning loanees apparent.
The Colombian was one of many players who had temporarily left Elland Road for the season, but he was one of the few who made the move permanent. The Cherries agreed to pay more than £20 million in a transaction that everyone was pleased with.
However, Farke made it clear at the time that he believed it was generally ineffective for footballers to try to return to clubs they had freely chosen to leave. Brenden Aaronson is in that same boat.
“I’m always a bit careful when a player who was here wants to go away, then to bring him back in, it’s a bit like, we have a saying in Germany: when you put the food into the microwave, it never tastes as well as if it’s freshly cooked,” Farke stated in February.
“So, I’m not a huge believer in such a scenario. So, even though he’s (Sinisterra) a terrific player and a nice character, we wish him all the best; it’s helpful to us and obviously the right option.”
The American and Farke have spoken over the last week, and the latter has heard enough to feel there may be another opportunity for the former to pursue. However, the manager will have to answer some questions.
While Aaronson was unlikely to garner as much money as Sinisterra, he was ‘already here’ and intended to leave after relegation. Farke appears to have heard something in their conversations that leads him to believe the 23-year-old is a better choice than the fresh energy he discussed in February.
