The Whites would “love” to reach an agreement, according to the story.
Leeds United are now vying for an automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first time this season. The Whites are now third in the division, one point behind Leicester City and two points behind Ipswich Town, with three games remaining.
If Daniel Farke’s side fails to return to the top two, they will have to participate in the play-offs, where they may face his previous club Norwich City.
If the Yorkshire-based team does get promotion, they may aim to strengthen their roster, and the most recent update on one of their stated targets is encouraging for the club.
Leeds United’s chances to sign Joe Rodon
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are planning a permanent exit for Leeds loanee Joe Rodon during the forthcoming summer transfer window, and will “accept (an) offer” from the 49ers Group at Elland Road.
The tall defender is represented by the same agency – CAA Stellar – as current Leeds teammates Patrick Bamford and Daniel James, and this, combined with the existing loan agreement between the two clubs, suggests that the Whites have already established a relationship to negotiate a transfer this summer.
Why Leeds should sign Rodon to a permanent contract.
Throughout the Championship season, Farke has shown his admiration for Rodon by constantly starting him at the heart of the defence. The German manager has also described him as “excellent” and lauded the centre-back’s “warrior mentality” at times, citing his outstanding defensive efforts for Leeds.
He has started 39 of the club’s 43 league games this season and has contributed significantly to the team’s division-best defensive record of only 34 goals against.
As shown in the table above, the 26-year-old behemoth has constantly delivered superb defensive performances, outdueling opposing attackers 66% of the time.
23/24 Championship | Joe Rodon |
---|---|
Appearances | 40 |
Sofascore rating | 7.22 |
Clearances per game | 4.5 |
Interceptions per game | 1.2 |
Ball recoveries per game | 4.2 |
Duel success rate | 66% |
At the age of 26, the Welsh colossus may still have his finest years ahead of him, as he has lots of time to develop and improve under Farke, making signing him on a permanent basis at Elland Road a brilliant short-term and long-term decision.
