He scored at Elland Road last season. Leeds United are looking to re-sign a player who scored at Elland Road last season, according to The Athletic.
Leeds transfer speculations
The Whites will play another season in the Championship after suffering another playoff defeat, with manager Daniel Farke, owners 49ers Enterprises, football advisor Nick Hammond, and technical director Gretar Steinsson gearing up for a hectic summer.
The club may need to sell a number of players to balance the books, with Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Wilfried Gnonto all linked with departures. However, there are expected to be some arrivals, as chairman Paraag Marathe recently stated: “We have the cash that we require to do our tasks.“Being in the Championship means that Profitability and Sustainability (P&S) are important considerations. We also inherited a difficult situation, so there are bound to be some trade-offs. But we also have a great team, and it’s not just about outs and ins.
“We are looking into scouting opportunities and players that we may bring in. We will have to make certain trade-offs due to P&S, but we have the investment to do what is necessary.”
And it appears that the team is intent on re-signing a familiar figure.
Leeds are interested in re-signing Connor Roberts
Nancy Froston of The Athletic wrote an in-depth report about Leeds’ transfer plans on Thursday, mentioning Wales defenders Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts. Last season, the pair were on loan at Elland Road, with the latter signing from Burnley in January. The Whites had Rodon for the full season and are interested in re-signing the centre-back from Tottenham, while Leeds are also interested in Roberts.
According to the source, Roberts’ “future could depend on who fills the managerial vacancy at Turf Moor, following Vincent Kompany’s appointment at Bayern Munich”. Roberts, who earns £30,000 a week at Turf Moor, is entering the final year of his Burnley contract, and Leeds appear to be trying to capitalise with a summer swoop.
He offered critical experience and support for Gray in the last months of the season, scoring at Elland Road against Leicester City and assisting away against Huddersfield Town in 14 appearances. Farke is definitely an admirer of Roberts, as he stated after signing the right-back in the January transfer window:
“We wanted to bring in a professional. We discovered one with Connor Roberts, who is the right age and has some experience, which we wanted to include. Wonderful CV. As a right-back, he was also named to the Championship Team of the Year last season. One hundred and eighty games at this level, 40 Premier League games, top-tier character, accessible right now, and totally committed. I’m pretty pleased with him.”
If the 49ers Enterprises can finalize a deal in the following months, the German may sing Roberts’ praises once more.
