A supercomputer projected the final Championship rankings after Leeds United, Leicester City, and Ipswich all won their respective games on Monday (1 April).
The Foxes opened the day with a 3-1 comeback win against Norwich City, before the Tractor Boys scored an even more dramatic victory over Southampton, reclaiming first place in the Championship.
Leeds were under pressure as they met Hull City in their final encounter on Monday, and although Fabio Carvalho cancelled out Sam Byram’s opener, late goals from Crysencio Summerville and Dan James secured all three points.
According to Opta Analyst [5 April], Leicester remain favourites to win the title battle, with a 43.26 percent likelihood of doing so. However, this has dropped from 58.4 percent on March 19.
Leeds have a 34.04 percent chance of winning the title, compared to Ipswich’s 22.52 percent, despite leading the Championship standings.
Leeds United and Leicester City are expected to hold out for Premier League promotion.
Ipswich are the least likely to finish in the top two for automatic promotion, despite being ahead of their competitors in the table.
Enzo Maresca’s side continue to be the most likely to finish in the top two, with a 75.32 percent chance, followed by Leeds at 68.84 percent and Ipswich at 54.92 percent.
While the supercomputer’s projections may come as a relief to those at Elland Road, Daniel Farke will concentrate solely on his team’s performance and nothing else.
The German has already been in this position with the Canaries, having led them to the Premier League twice between 2017 and 2021.
Farke will understand from this experience that Leeds cannot rely on Leicester or Ipswich to slow down, and that his players have the drive and ambition to take control of their own destiny.
The Whites may be concerned about their impending fixtures, which include in-form Blackburn Rovers, QPR, and fellow promotion aspirants Southampton.
