Nottingham Forest claimed the East Midlands bragging rights on Friday night as former boss Steve Cooper was put to the sword by the club he departed in December.
Leicester were no match for Forest and from the moment Chris Wood put Nuno Espirito Santo’s team back in front just after half-time, there was little doubt that the Reds would win.
As supporters, we’d seen that Steve Cooper film before. It’s like one of those that you don’t really enjoy the first time and you scrunch your face up when someone suggests replaying it.
On Friday, however, Cooper was in the other dugout and his team’s incapabilities to play for a full 90 minutes reared their ugly head and Forest took full advantage of the situation.
Troy Deeney selected Chris Wood and Ryan Yates for his BBC Sport Team of the Week. Both players were in the goals at the Kind Power Stadium and deserved their recognition.
Elsewhere, Gary Neville singled out Elliot Anderson for admiration on Sky Sports. The £35 million player replaced the injured Morgan Gibbs-White and has thoroughly loved his role as a number ten.
Alan Shearer picks Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina to the Team of the Week.
Shearer selects the official Premier League Team of the Week, and he’s gone all out for Forest this week.
Wood goes without saying, but he has also chosen to put Ola Aina in the lineup following his impressive performance as a right-back over 90 minutes.
Aina has dominated that position this season, with Alex Moreno adding some balance to the left side of the pitch after joining on loan from Aston Villa in the summer.
On the Premier League’s official website, Shearer described Aina’s effort as “a superb shift.” Leicester City had little success down his side of the pitch on Friday.”
Forest offers Aina a new contract.
It has been alleged in the last 24 hours that Forest are eager to begin negotiations to keep Aina at the City Ground beyond the conclusion of his current contract, which ends in the summer.
At 27, Aina is at the height of his powers, and Forest cannot afford to allow players of his caliber depart for free, regardless of how little time they have spent at the football club.
Aina is a player who gives his all everytime he’s called upon, and Callum Hudson-Odoi claims he’s the one who gets everyone in the dressing room excited about matches before they start.
He cannot be allowed to leave the club anytime soon, and hopefully, a fast round of discussions will see Aina commit his future to Forest ahead of his prime years as a fullback.
