Illan Meslier is once again prospering at Leeds United as one of the most promising goalkeepers in English football, according to Sport.
The Spanish daily said on page 27 of its print edition on Tuesday (12 March) that it was difficult for the 24-year-old to be a starter in the Premier League at such a young age and be connected with Real Madrid and Barcelona.
However, following the Whites’ relegation to the Championship, it looks that the Frenchman has found the confidence to be the keeper that previous manager Marcelo Bielsa fell in love with at Elland Road.
Illan Meslier is in excellent form for Leeds United.
Meslier has had a mixed spell at Leeds since coming from French club Lorient in 2019 at the age of 19.
He put in some outstanding performances in his first few seasons at Elland Road until losing his position in the team near the end of the last season.
However, since the Whites were relegated to the Championship, the goalie has regained his form, helping his team post the division’s best defensive record.
The Frenchman has already maintained 17 clean sheets in 35 appearances this season, and Daniel Farke’s team is in pole position to return to the Premier League right away.
There is no doubt that he will be crucial in their promotion push over the coming several months, having formed a strong connection with the defenders in front of him.
