The latest news for Rangers and Celtic leading up to the weekend’s Scottish Premiership action.
Celtic and Rangers are preparing for Scottish Premiership play this week, having analysed their midweek victory.
Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops defeated Aberdeen 5-1 on Tuesday night, while new Gers interim manager Barry Ferguson led a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over Kilmarnock.
Celtic play St Mirren in Paisley on Saturday evening, while Rangers welcome Motherwell at Ibrox in the following round of matches. Here are some of the latest news from Glasgow’s two clubs on Friday morning.
Simon Jordan dishes Rangers a dose of reality.
Simon Jordan has warned Rangers and Leeds United that becoming a UK superpower will require more than just a large fan base and greater funding from 49ers Enterprises.
The San Francisco 49ers presently control the English Championship leaders and are in talks to acquire the Ibrox club from Dave King and his other shareholders.
That has led to speculation that the Light Blues’ spending power will increase heading into next season, but former Crystal Palace owner Jordan stressed on talkSPORT that 49ers Enterprises’ ownership of both clubs does not guarantee that they will become major players in the game, despite Leeds’ pursuit of promotion back to the Premier League.
He admitted: “I don’t think Rangers will become a powerhouse since they will still play in the Scottish Premiership, which limits their opportunities. Yes, they have global support, but there is only so much money that can be made by putting people inside football stadiums and selling some products.
“The reason Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool have turnovers of £500 million to £600 million is that broadcasters pay them 40 to 50 percent of that. The rest of it comes from commercial deals, as well as fans and attendance.
