Chris Sutton has been outraged by a “sickening” altercation involving Everton striker Beto and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
The Toffees won 2-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday (April 21), thanks to goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil, but were dealt a new injury setback when Beto was forced off in injury time.
In the dying minutes of the game, the Portuguese forward collided with Gibbs-White, and while the Toffees striker was taken off on a stretcher, the Forest midfielder was permitted to continue, much to Sutton’s dismay.
On Sunday (21 April), he wrote on X: “Once again, a serious head clash was not dealt with adequately.” The battle between Beto and Gibbs-White is terrible, and while Beto should leave, Gibbs-White should stay.
“The same force/impact passes through both players’ heads! Most clubs do not care about player wellbeing.
Will Beto play for Everton again this season following the incident against Nottingham Forest?
Most supporters would have their hearts in their mouths if they watched Beto hit the ground in the way he did. Fortunately, Dyche has indicated that he is already responsive, as he made a short gesture to supporters from his stretcher.
Hopefully, the striker will not be sidelined for long, as he has demonstrated in recent weeks that he can play a role in this team. He, like Calvert-Lewin, is not faultless, but he works hard and never admits defeat.
On Sutton’s point, it is slightly alarming that one player can be forced off on a stretcher while the other can continue to play. Concussions are a big issue in today’s game, and it’s unclear how this will effect Gibbs-White.
Hopefully, Dyche’s team will have both strikers back healthy and available sooner rather than later. Until then, they must embrace Beto’s continued good health as a positive and enjoy the three points, which might be key in the relegation battle.
