Sheffield Wednesday are interested in signing Leeds United winger Ian Poveda permanently after he helped the club stay in the division this month.
Leeds loaned out several players this season, with only a few leaving Elland Road with best wishes for their future seasons.
Ian Poveda was one of the few Leeds fans believed would succeed, joining Sheffield Wednesday on loan to restart his career after battling for playing time under Daniel Farke.
Ian Poveda helps Wednesday miraculously survive.
The Owls defeated Sunderland on Saturday to avoid relegation, becoming the first team to remain in the division despite a 13-game winless streak.
Danny Rohl will rightfully receive all of the credit for his performance as Wednesday’s coach since replacing Xisco Munoz, but Poveda quickly became a fan favourite for the same reasons Leeds supporters always had time for him.
Not only was he displaying his usual charm off the field, but his work on the ball had captured the imagination since his Man of the Match performance on his home debut.
Poveda wanted by Wednesday permanently.
According to Alex Miller of the Star, Wednesday is aiming to sign Poveda permanently this summer after ensuring their spot in the second tier.
They would be able to sign the winger on a free transfer after his Leeds contract expired, having attempted to sign him permanently in January when the interest first surfaced, beating now-relegated Birmingham to his signature.
Other unnamed clubs are expected to be interested in the winger, with Birmingham City potentially out of the running now that they are destined for League One.
Poveda deserves a permanent Wednesday relocation.
Poveda had been a victim of circumstance at Leeds, with multiple Premier League-caliber attackers in our squad when he returned from his Blackpool loan.
Many fans wanted to see what he could do in preseason, and he impressed, so it’s a shame he didn’t get many opportunities after that.
However, before his injury, he was one of Wednesday’s main players, and having him there permanently would be fantastic.
