Sheffield United and Middlesbrough are apparently interested in Nottingham Forest player Lewis O’Brien.
The 25-year-old, a product of Huddersfield Town’s academy, just finished a season on loan at Middlesbrough after being considered surplus to requirements at Forest.
Despite a protracted layoff that kept him out for much of the season, O’Brien made 23 Championship games under Michael Carrick. According to reporter Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, Middlesbrough wants to bring him back to the Riverside.
Preston North End, on the other hand, are thought to be interested in a loan deal if Alan Brown leaves Deepdale, while Sheffield United is also a potential suitor. According to the source, Forest’s relegation to the Championship would facilitate a transaction.
O’Brien has been with Forest since 2022, when he left Huddersfield to complete a permanent move to the City Ground. He has been extensively connected with Leeds United, with previous manager Marcelo Bielsa reportedly admiring the midfielder’s abilities.
Links to O’Brien reappeared last summer, when Leeds returned to the Championship, but a move to Elland Road never materialized.
The 25-year-old has also previously played for Bradford City, and his loan spell with the Bantams served as the impetus for his Huddersfield breakthrough.
