Scott Parker weighed in on Leeds United following their non-eventful, nerve-racking 0-0 draw at Turf Moor in very rainy weather.
Leeds headed into the game knowing that a victory would put them four points ahead of Sheffield United, who had lost 3-0 to Joe Gelhardt’s Hull. They might have gone six points ahead of Burnley.
Instead, Leeds could only manage a 0-0 draw against Parker’s side. Burnley’s outstanding defensive record, with only nine goals conceded in 29 Championship games, makes this unsurprising.
It means Leeds remain top of the table, but only by two points over Sheffield United, led by Chris Wilder. Burnley is now three points clear of Sunderland, who drew with Plymouth Argyle.
Scott Parker delivers assessment on Leeds United following draw
Parker’s tactics aid to neutralize Leeds, while Farke named Ilia Gruev to the starting lineup for the first time since his injury in October. A defensive switch occurred when the Bulgarian replaced Joe Rothwell.
In his post-match press conference, Burnley manager Parker summarized the game and delivered his assessment on Leeds, including remarks from Leeds Live and Radio Leeds analyst Adam Pope.
According to Leeds Live, it was always going to happen that way. Leeds are a top team. That point makes me happy. We had our moments, some really wonderful bits. They demonstrated dominance without causing us significant harm.”
While on X, Pope stated: “It smelled like 0-0, and that’s what it was.” However, our defensive performance this year has been exceptional. We’ve picked up four points while not conceding to perhaps the top club in the league.
How do Leeds compare this season to this point last season?
So, with another point at Turf Moor, Leeds will have reached 60 points before any other team. Daniel Farke’s hunt for a league win against Burnley continues, with five games without three points.
Leeds finished fourth last season, three points behind where they are today. Indeed, the Whites are nine points behind leaders Leicester City and two below Ipswich.
Leeds had also played one more game on January 27 than Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton. Those three advanced while Leeds was relegated to the Championship, and Leeds remains in first place this season.
