Scott McKenna has been urged to join Celtic in the summer transfer window following his departure from Nottingham Forest.

Former Scotland full-back Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to games Insider, urged McKenna make a permanent switch to play regular games and settle at one club.

The 27-year-old spent the second part of last season on loan at FC Copenhagen, where he made 21 appearances in all competitions after falling out of favour at the City Ground.

He will quit Forest when his contract expires on June 30.

McKenna’s experience in England, having made 106 games for Forest and 33 caps for Scotland, ticks several boxes at Parkhead.

In January, Football Insider reported that Celtic had renewed interest in Scott McKenna, who was available for free transfer after leaving Nottingham Forest.

Hutton added that his awareness of what it takes to produce under pressure in Scottish football, as well as the possibility to play in the Champions League, should make this transaction possible.

“I think it would be a really good decision for him to go and be a part of that Celtic team,” he said.

“He’s had the experience of being down south, being on loan, and now he wants to go somewhere and find a home, play regular football, and be happy.”

“He also has extensive international experience.

“He understands what it is all about. He understands the pressure that will come with playing for Celtic, but it will not deter him.

“He’ll also have the potential to win prizes and compete at the greatest level during the Champions League season.

“To get him in on a free, Scottish, I think the deal ticks a lot of boxes for Celtic.”
