As both clubs seek to alleviate worries about the Premier League’s profit and sustainability standards, Newcastle United has allegedly begun discussions with Nottingham Forest over a potential swap move this summer.
Nottingham Forest Transfer News
To their credit, Forest has been one of the clubs that has sold well during the summer transfer season thus far, with the rumored departures of Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala likely pleasing the Premier League sufficiently to avoid any punishment this summer. Despite these sales, the Midlands club is still at risk of losing one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s greatest players.
According to sources, Chelsea is interested in signing Murillo and has even offered Forest a deal in which Trevoh Chalobah will arrive in a summer trade.
The central defender has dropped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and is expected to slide even further with the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo. Forest would surely profit from the addition of a player with Champions League winning experience, notwithstanding his current position in the Chelsea squad.
Swap offers appear to be the summer trend at City Ground as well. According to Luke Edwards and John Percy of the Telegraph, Newcastle United have given Nottingham Forest the chance to recruit Elliot Anderson in a deal that would see Anthony Elanga move to St James’ Park.
Forest should be in the driver’s seat when it comes to potential deals, as Newcastle desperately want to comply with the same PSR requirements that Nottingham Forest appear to have labored to fulfill this summer. The fact that Anderson works for the same agency as Morgan Gibbs-White may also help them in talks.
“Excellent” Anderson can succeed Gibbs-White.
With his Forest future uncertain in recent months, Forest may kill two birds with one stone by bringing Anderson in as a direct replacement for both Elanga and Gibbs-White. Following in the latter’s footsteps would be difficult, but Anderson’s versatility as an attacking midfielder, left winger, and central midfielder would make him a viable alternative for Espirito Santo next season.
Premier League stats 23/24 (via FBref) | Elliot Anderson | Morgan Gibbs-White |

Minutes | 1,027 | 3,156 |
Goals | 0 | 5 |
Ball recoveries per 90 | 5.26 | 5.10 |
Key passes per 90 | 1.32 | 2.11 |
Elliot, a different type of player than Gibbs-White, whose work off the ball may have a greater influence than the current Forest star’s when in possession, would finally receive the chance he has been waiting for with a move to the Midlands this summer.
Eddie Howe will be disappointed to see him depart if he does make the transfer, having praised Anderson last season. The Newcastle manager told TNT Sports: “Elliot Anderson was excellent; he’s been trying to break into the team and stay there.”
