SAD NEWS: Leeds will be forced to sell star players after the ‘devastating’ financial news

Leeds United are nearing the limit of financial constraints and will be forced to sell senior players this summer after incurring a “devastating” £34 million deficit in 2022-23, according to Football Insider.

The Yorkshire club filed its full 22-23 accounts with Companies House on Tuesday (9 April), reporting a club record turnover of £189 million.

They made £74 million in player sales but lost £34 million as a result of their relegation to the Championship.

It follows losses of £36.7 million and £11.1 million in their last two financial statements.

Leeds have comfortably met PSR this season, but large losses in consecutive years mean they will need to balance their finances to avoid a breach next year.

Leeds United must sell to avoid the points deduction danger next season.

The club lost £65.5 million when they were previously promoted in 2020, and comparable sums from their Championship campaign this season would put them at risk of a points deduction.

Leeds will only have permissible losses of £81 million in their 23-24 PSR calculations since one of their accounting years was spent in the Championship.

To prevent major losses that would take them over the line, Leeds is expected to sell key players to balance their books.

According to Football Insider, numerous prominent Premier League clubs are contemplating bids for Leeds star Archie Gray.

Daniel Farke’s side is presently third in the Championship, one point behind promotion contenders Leicester City and Ipswich Town with four games remaining.
